Caribbean Sea Issue Surfaces In New York
In 2006, ACS Ministers of Foreign Affairs agreed on the formation of a Follow-Up Commission "to do the strategic planning and technical follow-up work for the advancement of the Caribbean Sea Initiative and to formulate a practical and action-oriented work programme for the further development and implementation of the Initiative taking into account the work already undertaken by the TAG and other relevant regional stakeholders." OAS Reaffirms Commitment To Intergral Development
The OAS Assistant Secretary General urged Caribbean agriculture ministers to use the Caribbean Single Market and Economy (CSME) to as a vehicle to satisfy more of its food needs, in order to reduce the sub-region's dependency on food imports and to improve food security. He also exhorted the Caribbean to look beyond self-sufficiency and to explore the possibilities for accessing new markets for agro-industrial exports, especially in the context of existing and future trade agreements.
