Secretary General Insulza Underscores OAS Commitment To Caribbean Region
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the "Conference on the Caribbean -A 20/20 Vision", at the World Bank in Washington, Insulza noted that "this vulnerability arises from an inherent exposure to adverse external shocks that are beyond the control of the countries, including energy price shocks, natural disasters, strains posed by migration, the effect of the HIV/AIDS pandemic and the adverse effects of climate change." Caribbean Warns US Of Economic Risks
Prime Minister Arthur pointed to the disadvantage the Caribbean will face if the preferential arrangements are ended by next year when the current Caribbean Basin Initiative (CBI) expires. The CBI which runs out in September next year, currently provides 24 beneficiary countries in the Caribbean and Central America with duty-free access to the U.S. market for most goods. DETAILS
