Jamaican Canadian Woman Wins $25 Million On LOTTO 6/49
June 25-08 - Beverly Palmer of Scarborough was laid off from
her job in February 2008. Today she has no worries for the future, after
discovering that she was the sole winner of Wednesday's June 18 $25 Million
LOTTO 6/49 Jackpot.
Initially, Palmer thought she had won $250,000 after checking her ticket
at a self scanner. "There were so many zeros that I lost track!" She called
her brother with excitement, and he told her that there was only one winner
for the $25 Million Jackpot. At that moment she exclaimed, "That must be me!"
Palmer emigrated from Jamaica to Canada 38 years ago and raised one son
on her own. Clearly her love for sunshine paid off. She purchased her ticket
last Tuesday because the weather forecast for Wednesday predicted rain and she
did not want to leave the house in a storm.
"I'm in a good place," Palmer calmly told OLG Prize Centre staff, adding
her dream of helping her family and friends will finally be realized. Palmer
also said with her unexpected prize, she would like to travel, and possibly go
back to school to get an education in finance.
Ontario's newest multi-millionaire hopes that her windfall will inspire
lottery players, "My story gives others hope, if I can get those winning
numbers, others can too!"
The winning ticket was purchased at Shopper's Drug Mart on Rylander
Boulevard in Scarborough.
