Toronto Fire Services Donates 300 Pieces Of Firefighting Gear To Guyana
June 09-08 - Boots, helmets, coats and other firefighting equipment were donated to the Guyanese fire services at city hall in Toronto. Ulric Anthony who spearheaded the donation was on a recent trip to Guyana, said, “I walked into their fire department and there was nothing there.” Anthony had already spent $20,000 of his own money to help equip the Guyanese fire services.
Guyanese fire fighters will no longer have to fight fires dressed only in their pants and shirts. Though the gear is used – they have all been cleaned and repaired, assured Toronto’s Fire Chief William Stewart.
Terry Jervis, of the Guyana Ex-Police Association, who accepted the donation from Fire Chief William Stewart at City Hall yesterday, said "They try their best with their limited resources, but the help that we're getting from Canada is going to go a long way."
